Ashwin Patel was born and raised in Luanshya, Zambia. High school education was in Baroda, India. One year of University education was completed in Bombay (Mumbai). Ash emigrated to the U.S. in 1984. University education was at Mercer University, Atlanta. Education emphasis was in Management/Marketing.
In 1992 entered in the Lodging Industry as a resident manager and partner of a 54 unit Econo Lodge in Flagstaff, Arizona. In 2003 Ash
started Southwest Hospitality Management, LLC a Flagstaff based management company that is managing with ownership interest in hotels that have affiliations with a variety of national chains like Choice Hotels, Cendant Hotels, Marriott Hotels, Six Continents and Best Western International, etc. |

Professional affiliations:
Ash served as President of the Flagstaff Innkeepers Association for 3 years December 1999 to June 2003 and currently serving as Ex-Officio on the Board.
In 2003 served as a Franchise Advisory Committee member for Days Inns of America representing 2000 hotels and franchisees of this brand.
Ash was elected to the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) as the Southwest Regional Director in 2003. He is also serving as the AAHOA Government Affairs Committee Chair and the AAHOA PAC Chair. Ash was elected Treasurer in 2005 which is an officer position and puts him in the ascension line to lead the organization as its Chairman in the coming years.
Sports Interests:
Golf with an 8 handicap, and watching college sports. Ash also played varsity soccer. |
