Ashwin "Ash" Patel, President & CEO of SWHM
In 1992, Ashwin "Ash" Patel, entered the lodging industry as a resident manager and partner of a 54-unit Econo lodge
in Flagstaff, Ariz. In 2003, Ash founded Southwest Hospitality Management, LLC, now a Mesa, Ariz. - based hotel management company with ownership interests in hotels that have affiliations with a variety of national chains, such as Marriott International, La Quinta Hotels, Choice Hotels, Wyndham Worldwide Hotels, Hilton Hotels, InterContinental Hotels and Best Western International. Southwest Hospitality Management provides third-party management services as well as investment opportunities through syndication.

In 2008, Ash founded a private oil investment and exploration company called The Patel Oil Group, LLC, based in Denver, Colo.

Ash also served as the president of the Flagstaff Innkeepers Association from December 1999 to June 2003 and currently serves as Ex-Officio on the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) Board of Directors. In 2003, he was elected to the AAHOA Board as the Southwest Regional Director. That year, he also became a member of the Franchise Advisory Committee for Days Inns of America, which represents 2,000 hotels and franchisees within the brand.

Ash served as AAHOA Chairman in 2008, where he also served as Chairman of the AAHOA Government Affairs Committee and the AAHOA PAC. He also served as the association's Treasurer in 2005, Secretary in 2006 and Vice Chairman in 2007.
